I started playing bass guitar around age twelve. The idea was to get the girls! I figured the bass had only four strings and it wouldn't take too long to learn. I taught myself in no time. I started playing out for money at age fourteen with a group called BlackRoot Veil, The oldest guy in the band was sixteen, not a great singer but he could drive, so he was in. We had to join the Musicians Union of Associated Artists of Kentucky to get in to play the bars at that age. The next band I was in was called Loveland Pass, same music different guys. I graduated from school and joined a bigger name band called Zuka Joe, we played all over Kentucky, Tennessee and Ohio. We were quite the "band" at that time. When I was a little older and more experienced I joined a popular top forty band called Razzmatazz, I learned a lot from these older seasoned musicians. I move to Florida in 1981 and joined the Rapp Brothers band. Then life happened, kids, etc. and I quit playing in bands for a long time. Then around 2000, my friend Ray and I started a band called Fat Daddy which had a great run for about nine years, and now have formed a new version of that band with two new talented additions, Scott on sax and Paul on drums. The friendship and spirit in this new band is something that can't be missed.
